On May 10, 2008 Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro will be linked to produce a 4-hour program of films, music and speakers. The program will be broadcast live at the same time across the world. According to the festival organizers, "Pangea Day plans to use the power of film to bring the world a little closer together."

Playlist "Play All" option
posted by rottenseed 1 week 1 day ago • 233 views
I wish there were a way that I could play through every video in a playlist (either in order or randomly) all the way through without physically exerting any effort into all of this "mouse clicking" nonsense. This would also be awesome be able to do with specific channels as well.

What drove me to this idea is the want for music I've deemed playlist worthy being played in the background while I'm working. Wouldn't that be nice to have that, or standup comedy in the background or just if you want to watch random clips within a certain channel.

A strangely compelling music video in how it animates and uses paper masks. Worth a look, at least (even if the song does bug me a bit).

I noticed a lot of live music performance videos are not tagged with livemusic. Just a reminder, it exists. Please tag/mark it.

Is Youtube Stereo or mono? I'm guessing L and R channels are the same. Anyone? Just idle curiosity.

Recent (over-?)abundance of music videos on the Sift
posted by EDD 1 month 2 weeks ago • 425 views
... more inside ...I'd like to direct your attention (or at least start a debate, because I can't believe I'm the first that's got this situation on the radar) on the, imo, incredible number of music videos that are being sifted as of late.

To try and put it into a perspective, let's look at the facts (=the numbers):
At this moment, 21 music videos, including live versions, are on the first 5 pages on the "Sifted" list (spanning last 24 hours). That's more than a quarter.
Furthermore, 45 music videos have been sifted during the last 72 hours, and that's excluding all Livemusic, parodies (e.g. of Cher), makings of (Rammstein), groovy and Obama girls, etc. (counted from the sifted list in the Music channel alone). Personally, I think that's a lot.

"Play" your Music with Audiosurf
posted by Doc_M 2 months ago • 545 views
So I recently stumbled upon this game that is absolutely fantastic, if simple. Audiosurf (www.audio-surf.com) takes any mp3 (or similar music file) and tracks it into an F-zero sort of game... It's hard to describe, but if you like music, you must at least try this thing out. You can get it for $10 or a demo through Steam. Try it! and if you buy it, here are a few songs that are perfect for it:
Celldweller - Last Firstborn
DJ Shadow - Stem (from the 187 soundtrack) <--
Rush - YYZ
Daft Punk - One More Time <--
Witches - Broomstick - Ddauta - Sambakza <--
And generally ALL fast up-beat trance or drum'n'bass.

And if you're in for a challenge:
Tatu - All the things she said

I've been a lover of audio-visualization for the last 10-15 years and I think this is the most intelligent visual reconstruction of music ever made. If you don't believe me on my word, try the songs I listed above, especially Daft Punk and DJ Shadow... I'm sure you can use your internet savvy to find them.

Other than them, I recommend either very dynamic songs, very energetic songs (with lots of notes, not just hardcore crap), or songs with multiple tempos or better, multiple time signatures.

Project Chaos - A Sonic 3 & Knuckles Arrangement album.
posted by JohnnyMackers 3 months 2 weeks ago • 610 views
As I ambled my geeky way around the internet I came across http://s3k.ocremix.org/.

They've put together an album of reinterpretations of the old Sonic 3 music. It's all there, free for download.

AND IT'S WONDERFUL. My current faves are "Walk on Water", "Malicious Fingers", "Live At The Sandopolis" and "Doomsday". Check this out if you're a big Sonic fan

Just a little experiment.

I've queued three videos:
http://www.videosift.com/video/U2-Numb
http://www.videosift.com/video/Pet-Shop-Boys-Numb
http://www.videosift.com/video/Linkin-Park-Numb

I remember watching on some music channel, they had a 'same title' hour where they played back to back the music videos with the same title. It was kinda interesting so I thought I'd try it here to see which one will get out of the queue first, if any at all.
