This guy can take a flying leap! Common sense tells me he is a racist nationalist. America was founded on diversity, and it is our strength! Separation of church and state means removal of religion from government, yes it does! That is to protect you too, asshole! What will he be saying when some community starts including Islamic traditions instead of Christian? I bet he'd be all for the removal of Allah from public life!

Yes, focus on our country first and our schools for the future. Yes, pull out of foreign wars, and stop sending our tax dollars to countries who don't give a damn about us. Yes, drivers license photos should not allow an obscured face.

But the idea that we need one culture and one language (and implied one religion) to be strong is utter bullshit. And somebody please explain to me how medicare and social security can be bankrupt and still operate without collapsing? They may tremendously benefit from more careful management, but they're not going away any time soon, so how is it a reason to give up on single payer health coverage?

And don't start blaming the progressives for the failure to secure our borders and cut off the illegal immigrants. The conservatives had 6 years with an iron grip, and they did nothing! The truth is that it's the big corporations who are the power behind that movement. They want to keep a large cheap labor pool, and their politician lackeys will make the excuses needed to keep that going.

But I must agree with his final message. It is up to us to stay involved and make sure the politicians represent the will of the people. But Mr. "Paine", don't for one second think that you have common sense on your side.

"Why Bank Of America Fired Me"

I have to agree with WP on this one. The vast majority of everybody's complaints here would be solved by stronger controls on politicians that would reduce or eliminate the effectiveness of lobbying. It is the money changing hands in Washington DC that is the root of sooo many problems, both with corporations and with government itself.

Personally, I'm for separation of money and "free speech". One person's or corporation's massive coffers should not give them "more" free speech than the average citizen. Elections should be publicly financed so that politicians cannot be beholden to a small number of donors, or potential donors.

On the topic of the video, Bank of America is not stupid. If it was more profitable to help those people out of debt, they would be doing it. They run off statistics, and not compassion. If it weren't for the apathy of the average citizen, this fact would put them out of business. But the average citizen doesn't care. *That is why this video is important for everybody to see.* If we want to see change in the way business treats people, we have to raise awareness of the cold cruelty that they perpetrate "within the law". It's the only way to effect change.

Atheism doesn't rule out the possibility of life after death, it simply is a statement that we would like some kind of evidence before shaping our lives around the idea.

But beyond that, ceremonies and monuments have always been for the living, not the dead. Atheists are just more likely to get that concept than somebody who is afraid the man in the sky is constantly judging them, along with all their dead relatives.
